An unmanned boat was discovered washed ashore on Sandy Point beach in Langley last week, requiring the Coast Guard to investigate.
“Wednesday morning on my way to one of the homes I have under construction, I noticed the bigger Coast Guard boat off Sandy Point and went down to the beach to see if I could offer assistance or see what was going on,” Adam Lidral of Sound Construction LLC said in an email.
Petty Officer First Class Alexander Polyak with the Coast Guard said that as of Monday afternoon, the owner of the boat had not been located.
After the Coast Guard received a report of the washed-up boat, the crew from the Everett-based vessel Coast Guard Cutter Henry Blake was dispatched to investigate and take the registration numbers, Polyak said.
“Nobody was on board, and we were unable to identify a responsible party,” he said. “With the windstorm we had recently, we’ve been having a lot of these all over the area. It’s a common issue that we have all year round.”
If there is no owner located, it’s possible a state vessel removal program may remove the boat, Polyak said.
