Co-authors Judy Lynn and Kay Foss will soon celebrate the release of “Images of America – Coupeville” at a book-signing event at the upcoming Mussel Mingle.

The book features photographs and captions which illustrate the history of Coupeville, from its Native American past to recent times. Historic photos are from the collections of the Island County Historical Museum, but also include many rare photos from private collections.

Lynn spent many hours interviewing the descendants of local pioneers and other longtime residents to find the best pictures to illustrate Coupeville’s colorful history.

“The hardest part of writing the book was making some very tough decisions on which photos would be used. They were all so good,” Lynn said.

Proceeds from the sale of the book, published by Arcadia Publishing, will benefit the Island County Museum.

The book signing is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the Coupeville Rec Hall. The two authors will also be on hand to sign and sell their book at the hall throughout Mussel Fest weekend, March 4-5.

Lynn will also present a slide show using the photos from “Coupeville,” including several rare shots that didn’t make the final cut in the book, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at the Coupeville Library.

“This will be your chance to see some historical glimpses of Coupeville and Central Whidbey that may not be seen again for a long time,” said Rick Castellano, director of the Island County Museum. “Judy and Kay did an amazing job of putting this all together. Lots of folks came forward with great photos and stories to tell, so this is really a community achievement as well.”

The book will also be on sale at the museum starting Friday, March 2, and book pre-orders are being taken.
