LANGLEY — After months of battling with the city and its neighbors, Mo’s Pub and Eatery left City Hall with what it wanted — new zoning ordinances.

Neighbors complained about the pub, one of the few places on South Whidbey that remains open during evenings. Noise, smoke and parking all became issues as Mo’s Pub became one of the Village by the Sea’s shining businesses. The city’s planning advisory board approved amendments to the commercial development adjacent to single-family residential zone districts Monday.

“I think we’ve come out with a better proposal,” said Langley city planner Jeff Arango.

“I really do believe that this ordinance strikes the right balance.”

Owners Maureen Cooke and Bob Trenchard were the only members in the audience at the board’s meeting. They briefly spoke “wholeheartedly” in favor of the rules and hoped Langley city council would approve the new ordinance at its next meeting, originally scheduled for Dec. 17, but canceled in favor of taking a winter break.
