City council OKs new meeting day
The Langley City Council voted to move its meeting dates from Wednesdays to Mondays.
The change starts in September. However, because the first Monday in September is Labor Day, the first council meeting will actually be on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
After that, all meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month at city hall, unless that Monday is a holiday.
Mayor Paul Samuelson said the change is a better fit for everyone’s schedule at city hall.
Friendship Force to host Brazilians
The Whidbey chapter of the Friendship Force will host 21 travelers from Brazil next week.
The group will plant a friendship tree at 3 p.m. Tuesday,
July 22 on the north end of the soccer field at the South Whidbey Sports Complex on Langley Road.
The club will hold a farewell dinner for the visitors Friday, July 25 at the Freeland Hall.
“We have hired Whidbey’s own marimba band to play and we will have a salmon dinner,” said Laura Strehlau, a Friendship Force member.
“I have just learned the Brazilians are bringing costumes and plan to dance for us,” she said.
