Fireworks cleanup at Double Bluff

A fireworks clean-up at Double Bluff beach is being organized by the folks at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse.

For each of the last nine years, volunteers have removed nearly a ton of leftover trash from fireworks. Much of the garbage is harmful to wildlife and may pose a health hazard.

“Last year we found many unspent fireworks next to fire pits still smoldering,” said organizer Cheryl May. “This could be a danger to people enjoying the beach on July 5.”

A quick firework clean-up starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 5 at Double Bluff. Gloves and bags will be provided.

For details, call 360-678-4100.
