No injuries reported in Langley attic blaze Jan. 23

The fire’s cause is still under investigation but was likely not intentional.

Firefighters responded to a fire that started in the attic of a Langley home last Saturday, Jan. 23.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS responded around 11:11 p.m. that night to a report of smoke billowing from the roof of a house on Coles Road.

No one was injured and the cause is still under investigation but does not appear to be intentional.

Jon Gabelein, the fire department’s public information officer, said firefighters were on scene for about two to three hours, which included removing insulation from the area of the ceiling and attic surrounding the fire and managing “hot spots.”

“Extensions of fire and heat can be concealed in these areas and being thorough when completing this process is critical to complete extinguishment,” Gabelein said.

Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue also responded to provide additional support.
