A driver escaped a flaming car after an early morning accident last weekend.
Central Whidbey firefighters joined a team from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue in responding to the single vehicle incident, which took place around 4:30 a.m. Dec. 17 at the intersection of Libbey Road and Highway 20.
According to a post on Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page, the driver of a Honda CRV failed to negotiate a turn and rolled the car onto the shoulder of the southbound lane.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, escaped with no major injuries. When Coupeville firefighters arrived, the car was engulfed in flames that were quickly spreading to the nearby tree line.
Between the two responding agencies, a total of three engines, one water tender, two brush trucks and two command vehicles responded to the incident. Firefighters from both departments coordinated to quickly subdue the blaze, the post indicates. No responders were injured.
