Nudist Democrat David Olinger, who ran as a write-in candidate for Island County Sheriff, won’t be going on to the general election.

The North Whidbey resident gained only 64 votes in the primary election. In order to be placed on the ballot as a write-in, a candidate must get at least 1 percent of the votes cast in that race. Olinger would have had to get at least 133 votes to move on to the November election.

Self-described as “pretty ferocious,” Olinger said he ran because he was unhappy at how many of the county’s elected officials were running unopposed. He announced his choice to run for sheriff but added that he’d take any job people wrote him in for.

Olinger also took four votes for prosecutor, two votes for assessor, one vote for auditor and coroner, and three votes for state representative District 10 position 1.

But while his dreams to become sheriff have been dashed, his hope of becoming a punchline on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart might actually come true.
