Oak Harbor Mayor Bob Severns is recovering at home after he broke his leg in a boating accident a few weeks ago.
Severns said he and his wife were out on a boat when he slipped and fell. He was taken to a hospital and found he broke his femur. He learned that the recovery process was going to be more extensive than he originally thought.
“I love boating, but accidents happen,” Severns said.
He will be working at home until his doctors tell him when he can return to the office. Mayor Pro Tem Beth Munns has been leading city council meetings in his absence, and City Administrator Blaine Oborn has the authority to conduct daily business.
Severns thanked members of the public for checking on him and city staff for being flexible.
