Options to run the Island County Fairgrounds will be the main discussion item for the Port of South Whidbey commissioners tonight.
The commissioners are having a special meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in Freeland to review their options at managing the nearly 13-acre Island County-owned property in Langley. The county commissioners asked the port district to consider running the property, which would include handling rentals and regular maintenance. The annual fair held at the property would still be put on by the Island County Fair Association, which currently also manages the property to its financial detriment, according to fair association officials.
The port district’s 2015 budget will also be discussed. The port board meets at 1804 Scott Road, in the building below China City in Freeland.
