Ordinance gives Langley the option to sell old fire hall

The Langley city council will discuss an ordinance at the city council meeting Wednesday that gives the city the option of selling the old fire hall on Second Street.

Fire District 3 will soon move into its new home on Camano Avenue and the city will lose $2,500 a month in lease money.

At a recent city council meeting, city officials strongly supported holding on to the property for various reasons. The proposed ordinance, however, gives city officials the option of selling the property.

“The council’s preference is to lease the fire hall but may consider an offer to purchase the property if an acceptable lease proposal does not materialize,” said Larry Cort, the city’s planning director.

The city council meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Langley City Hall.
