A woman was hit by a car while walking through the intersection of Roberta Avenue and Lotto Avenue in Freeland Wednesday and was taken to Whidbey General Hospital with leg injuries.

The low-speed accident happened while the woman was tending to her dog in the middle of the street about 2 p.m. Aug. 3. Authorities said the driver didn’t see the pedestrian because she was crouched down.

“Unfortunately they found each other,” said Fire District 3 Deputy Chief Mike Cotton.

Cotton said the pedestrian was a Japanese visitor and spoke limited English.

She was visiting with friends who spoke English, however, and they served as translators for emergency responders.
