A pickup truck drove off the road and into a stand of trees near Sills Road in Clinton on Monday night.
South Whidbey Fire/EMS responded to the scene at 8:54 p.m., but the vehicle was unoccupied. After emergency responders cleared the area, a man was discovered walking away from the scene about a mile away who was in need of medical assistance, Deputy Chief Jason Laughren said. Laughren said it was unclear whether the man was involved in the accident, and that it was up to the Island County Sheriff’s Office to determine that.
“We don’t assume whether the patient was involved in anything previous,” Laughren said. “That’s up to the sheriff’s office to determine that.”
Attempts to reach the Island County Sheriff’s Office concerning this story were not successful Tuesday by press time.
According to Laughren, the man was treated and did not require transportation to a hospital. The cause of the crash is still be determined.
“There were no indicating factors that would have indicated why that vehicle left that road,” Laughren said. “The roads were dry and there was nothing on the road or anything.”
“It was just after a corner though,” he added.
