Duncan McPhee has been hired as assistant harbormaster for the Langley small-boat harbor.
McPhee was introduced to Port of South Whidbey commissioners on Wednesday by harbormaster Rick Brewer.
“With just a short orientation, Duncan has jumped right in assisting day-to-day operations at the marina,” Brewer said. “During my absence over Halloween, he did an outstanding job and we’re glad he’s onboard.”
McPhee was selected from 24 applicants to fill the position. His background in customer service, resort and commercial charter boat operations made him a logical selection to fill this position, Brewer said. A Washington native, McPhee’s duties have taken him from Hawaii to California, arriving on Whidbey Island with his wife in 2005. They reside in Freeland where his wife, Beth, operates a plant and flower business.
McPhee will work full-time in the summer and part-time in the off-season and be paid a salary of $23,400, plus healthcare reimbursement.
The next meeting of the Port of South Whidbey is Wednesday, Dec. 9 at the Freeland Library.
