The Port of South Whidbey will host a special meeting devoted to a presentation by AT&T on its plans for a cell-phone tower above Possession Point Park.

Site acquisition specialist Steven Berke of Goodman Networks will present project details, followed by public input and commission discussion.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Monday, March 15 at the Clinton Progressive Hall, Central Avenue and Highway 525.

AT&T’s initial proposal is for a lease option to run for five years, with periodic renewal terms over the next 25 years. The proposed lease rate for the initial term would be $750 per month with a 15-percent increase every five years.

AT&T would make a one-time payment of $1,000. The option period allows AT&T to get approval of all of its required permits.

The lease area would be approximately 40 feet by 40 feet. A six-foot cedar fence would be placed around the facility. The 40-foot-high tower can be painted to match existing tree color, and only the top 10 percent of the tower would be seen above the tree line, according to the project’s proponents.
