Possession Point State Park will close on Monday, July 18 so work to replace the seawall can start.

The $400,000 project will include removing the plank bulkhead and replacing it with a buried rock trench to allow better long-shore transport of beach materials for improved salmonid habitat, state officials said.

The work is expected to take 60 to 90 days, according to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Funding for the project is coming from a FEMA disaster assistance grant.

Possession Point State Park is a marine park located on the southern tip of South Whidbey and is part of the Cascadia Marine Trail. The park is open to those arriving by wind- or human-powered watercraft only and is popular with scuba divers. The park also has one water trail campsite that is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
