Supporters of the move to change Langley’s form of government will hold a town meeting next week to talk about Proposition 1.

The “vote yes” campaign group, called Effective Governance for Langley, will host the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Langley United Methodist Church.

The group has also launched a website to tout the benefits they see that would come from eliminating the post of an elected mayor, and hiring a professional manager to run city hall instead. The website is at http://www.effectivegovforlangley.org/.

Bruce Kortebein, one of the organizers of the petition drive that put Prop. 1 on the Primary Election ballot, said speakers for the event may be announced at a later date.

Kortebein said the new website went live either late Sunday or Monday morning, and putting the website together was a group effort.

“I worked on it, Barbara Seitle worked on it, Mark Wahl, Robert Gilman worked on it,” Kortebein said. “I think those are all kind of the usual suspects.”

Kortebein said many others have also helped create the website.

Effective Governance for Langley does not plan on registering with the Public Disclosure Commission, the state agency that serves as a watchdog on elections and campaign financing, Kortebein said.

“I don’t think we’re going to spend that kind of money.”
