The Tokitae was out of service for nearly two hours Wednesday afternoon because of a possible propulsion system response problem.

According to Marta Coursey, spokeswoman for Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division, the ship’s master operating the state’s newest ferry had a concern about the propulsion system as the vessel approached the dock in Clinton. It went through some quick troubleshooting just off shore near the Clinton terminal and returned to service with the 4 p.m. sailing from Clinton to Mukilteo.

Contrary to some social media and online comments, the delay was not caused by the vessel colliding with pilings or the dock.

“I don’t have any reports of any damage to the pilings/dock,” Coursey said.
