Rachel the Pig is back home on Whidbey, recuperating from a collision with a taxi at the Pike Place Market in Seattle.
South Whidbey sculptor Georgia Gerber confirmed Thursday that the 550-pound bronze sculpture was at her Clinton studio awaiting minor repair, but she declined to elaborate, saying she was directed to remain mum on the subject by the Pike Place Market Foundation.
She said scratch repairs would begin soon, but Rachel’s return to Seattle has yet to be determined.
Rachel, sculpted by Gerber, has been outside the fish-throwing stand near the market’s clock since 1986.
It was knocked about 10 feet off its concrete stand on Saturday morning, Feb. 5, by a Seattle taxi. The driver said he inadvertently hit the gas after his cab was rear-ended. No injuries were reported.
Foundation officials said Rachel has raised as much as a $1,000 a month for social programs in downtown Seattle from donations from market visitors.
