Homeless kids on Whidbey Island need help, and Ryan’s House For Youth has a possible solution.

The nonprofit plans to build a shelter for homeless youths. Once built at its lot in the Scatchet Head neighborhood of South Whidbey, the house will support 16 homeless youths.

Ryan’s House will host a fundraiser auction Feb. 9 at the Greenbank Farm. The Bid Red Event is themed for red attire and all auction items and raffle gifts are red in some way, said Lori Cavender, executive director of Ryan’s House For Youth.

Organizers said the goal is to raise money to support homeless youths on Whidbey with everyday expenses. Ryan’s House has set up a van with hygiene products and clothing that roams from the South End to Oak Harbor. Many of those products are donated, but the gas is not free.

Recently, Ryan’s House received $450 from the auction of a Victorian doll house and a donation of $32,000.

Tickets for the Big Red Event fundraiser cost $30 and include one drink, appetizers, a bid number and one raffle ticket. To purchase tickets, go to www.ryanshouseforyouth.org.
