Stylists and other professionals at Freeland’s Studio A were recognized for their innovative hair styles, color and makeup artistry last week in a contest sponsored by an international cosmetic and hair care product company.

Studio A’s Andrea Brown, Shawn Nordin and Stacy K. Peterson, Freeland photographer, Les Dunner and four models to created a portfolio that won them recognition in the “Own the Cover” contest sponsored by Goldwel, a German company.

An independent panel judged over 300 photo portfolios from salons in the United States and Canada, evaluating color technique, hair cut style and composition, make-up and wardrobe techniques, photo and lighting quality, model selection and overall photo marketability.

Four of the five photographs Studio A submitted will be featured in “Project Glossy, Volume 3,” an annual publication depicting the latest in hair and makeup trends. It is distributed across North America to salons, cosmetic companies and other beauty professionals. The photos may also be selected at a later date for advertising products.

Brown, Studio A’s owner, said this is the first time in the contest’s history judges have selected more than three entries from one salon.

“To have them choose four from us, is really great recognition of our work here,” she said. “Les Dunner did a fabulous job on the photography.”

Three of the hairstyles were done by Brown and one by Shawn Nordin. Stacy Peterson did all the makeup. Modeling for the shoot were Blair Brown, Sally Albertsen, Nicole DeGryse, and Alexis Pong-Eveland. Along with Dunner, the team worked together in selecting the wardrobe for each model.
