School board talks budget and election

The public will get their first look at the South Whidbey School District 2004 budget early next month.

The public will get their first look at the South Whidbey School District 2004 budget early next month.

During Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, district business manager Mike Moore told the board the budget would be available to them prior to the board workshop on Aug. 11.

The public will also be able to pick up copies of the budget prior to that date, and can attend the workshop.

Adoption of the budget is scheduled for the regular meeting on Aug. 25.

During the public comment period of the meeting former school board director, Greg Gilles announced his intention to run for school board in November. Gilles lives in the District 2, currently represented by Ray Gabelein. Gilles, a residential contractor served on the board from 1991 to 1994.

Gabelein said he is undecided as to whether he will seek reelection.

Director Bob Riggs, announced he will be running for reelection from the first district. The only other open position is district 5, currently represented by Barbara Schneeman. Schneeman was not present at the meeting.
