The South Whidbey Board of Education will be playing musical chairs at its meeting Dec. 16 during its annual board reorganization.
At the meeting, the board is expected to elect a president and vice-president to serve for the coming year. Current officers are president Ray Gabelein and vice-president Barbara Schneeman. Also up for re-election is the legislative representative, a position currently held by Helen Price-Johnson.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and the election is the last item on the proposed agenda.
According to board policy, new officers are elected in December during a non-board election year and in November during a board election year.
Procedure calls for the current board president to ask for nominations for the president then call for a roll call vote to decide. The newly elected president then calls for nominations for vice-president to serve during the ensuing year, then another roll call vote is taken.
Two other board positions, that of board auditor, held by Jim Adsley, and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association representative, held by Bob Riggs, are volunteer roles.
