The South Whidbey School Board will hold a special workshop to continue its discussions on district restructuring. Board members will discuss the administration’s consolidation plan and issues related to grade configuration.

The current plan calls for the shutting down of Langley Middle School and moving programs and students — from sixth- through eighth-grade — to the high school by the fall of 2012. The move is a direct result of declining enrollment and a severe drop in state funding for secondary education.

Officials estimate a budget shortfall this year of $1 million to $1.5 million.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the elementary school.
