The search is continuing for the man who robbed a bank in Clinton Tuesday.

The Island County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding the man who robbed the Whidbey Island Bank branch on March 22.

Detective Ed Wallace said a man walked into the bank just before 1:30 p.m. March 22, claimed to have a weapon, and demanded money. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot.

“He never showed a weapon, he just indicated he had one,” Wallace said.

The robber was dressed in blue jeans and a dark coat, and was wearing a red scarf across his face and sunglasses. The sheriff’s office released a photograph of the suspect Wednesday morning.

The bank was closed yesterday for “standard crime scene processing,” Wallace said, and the FBI also came to the scene to assist. Evidence was collected at the bank, including fingerprints and shoe prints.

Police quickly converged on the area after the robbery was reported. Two units from the sheriff’s office, and one from Langley, were parked outside the bank on Highway 525 just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, and bank patrons were told the bank was closed.

“We did a search of the area as best we could,” Wallace said.

Toll booth workers at the Clinton Ferry Terminal were also contacted and given a description of the suspect.
