Skagit Valley College stamped 1,226 academic pedigrees this spring quarter.

The community college with campuses in Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor and Clinton awarded a host of degrees, certificates and diplomas, including 424 academic transfer degrees, 292 professional/technical degrees and certificates and 57 high school diplomas.

Its students range from 17 to 65 years old. Seventeen students were President’s Medal finalists. Skagit Valley College offers Running Start for students in high school to earn college credit and high school credit while taking college courses. The school had 58 Running Start students who graduated high school with their associate’s degrees.

The class of 2013 honored Mary Darden of Oak Harbor with the Puget Sound Excellence in Teaching award which came with a $1,500 stipend. Whidbey Island Campus students recognized the school’s business and economics department chair, Leslie Lukasik of Anacortes, with the Exceptional Full-time Faculty award.

Jan Hughes of Oak Harbor, an English, literature and business instructor, received the Exceptional Part-time Faculty award.

The Outstanding Staff award was given to Raynette Parks of Oak Harbor, the college’s program manager in the student programs office.
