South Whidbey churches announce Sunday events

South Whidbey churches have announced the topics for Sunday services.

Pastor Wenzek to give Sunday’s talk

Pastor Darrell Wenzek will speak tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church on the topic, “Organizing a Godly Society,” based on the Old Testament Book of Joshua, chapters 20, 21 and 22.

Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of the Patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

Home Bible studies are also offered; check the church website for times and locations.

All SWCC sermons and special adult forum events are recorded, and are available at www.whidbeychurch.org.

SWCC is a local, independent, non-denominational church that welcomes everyone and gathers for worship at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ at Unity

Speaker and songwriter Doug Benecke will give the talk “The Pursuit of Happiness” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.

The Declaration of Independence famously outlines the rights of Americans to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” On the eve of July 4, Benecke will explore what true happiness is, or can be, and where its meaningful pursuit lies.

Benecke will be joined by special musical guests. Karen McInerney will serve as platform assistant.

The service is 10 a.m. Sunday at Unity’s church at 5671 Crawford Road. All are welcome.

Visit Unity of Whidbey’s website at http://www.unityofwhidbeyisland.org for more information.

Service centers on your divine right

Celebrate Independence Day by claiming your divine right to be free of all shackles: sickness, debt, fear, bullying — whatever holds you captive.

On Sunday, July 3, the Christian Science service focuses on what Jesus taught about God’s children having this freedom and what this “truth” is that will make you free.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” (John 8:32).

“Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right,” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”).

Services begin at 10:30 a.m., and everyone is welcome. The church is at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road.

UUCWI gathers for ‘Singing our Principles’

Unitarian Universalists base their beliefs on a set of seven principles rather than on creeds.

This Sunday, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island will host a joyous sing-along of songs and hymns relevant to these principles.

The service is at 10 a.m. and all are welcome.

Children’s classes are not in session July and August, so older children are welcome to attend the service. There will be child care for children 3 and under.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation meets at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland.

This year, it’s a beach blast, with a surf-themed Bible school called “SonSurf.” Children will sing songs, watch skits, create crafts and play games. Light snacks will also be offered.

The free event is for children in kindergarten (completed) through the fourth grade. New this year is a fifth-grade volunteer training program.

Also available is a preschool vacation Bible school for kids ages 4-5 on a first-come registered basis.
