‘The Flaming Chalice’ at UUCWI
The flaming chalice is the symbol of Unitarian Universalism. At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will tell the story of how it became the church’s faith icon and what it means in contemporary terms.

‘Soul’ is the subject at Sunday service
“The term souls or spirits is as improper as the term gods. Soul or Spirit signifies Deity and nothing else. There is no finite soul nor spirit. Soul or Spirit means only one Mind, and cannot be rendered in the plural,” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”).
Sunday, Aug. 14, the Christian Science service focuses on “Soul” and how recognition of God as “Soul” helps to recognize one’s divine nature and honor the creator.
The exploration into “Soul” begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Science Church located at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview. Everyone is welcome.
Pastor Wenzek gives the SWCC sermon
Pastor Darrell Wenzek will speak tomorrow at South Whidbey Community Church on the topic “The God Whom We Worship,” looking at some of the attributes of God from the Psalms.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of the Patriarchs.
Also, there will be a men’s breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Deer Lagoon Grange, where Steve Hochenedel will be the featured chef. All interested guys are cordially invited.

‘The Bee’s Knees’ at Unity on Sunday
Rev. Patty Becker will give the talk “The Bee’s Knees” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.
Rev. Becker has been exploring the five basic principles that Unity aligns itself with.
The first and second principles state both the Unity belief about the nature of God and how members see themselves in relationship to God.
This week, the service will explore the working out of one’s relationship to God in real life through the third principle which says people create their own experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought. Can it really be that simple? Come and find out this Sunday at Unity of Whidbey.
