Whidbey poet Judith Adams will share her thoughts about the spiritual aspects of poetry at the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island.
Adams suggests that poetry awakens us to compassion and connects us to our humanity and to what is invisible.
The service is at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation meets at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland.

Sunday talk is ‘Slaves of Christ’
The word “slave” is used more than any other term in the Bible to describe followers of Jesus. Given the pejorative use of that word over time, how does “slave” accurately describe those otherwise called Christians? Guest speaker Pastor John Groce will speak to that topic in his sermon “Slaves of Christ” at South Whidbey Community Church tomorrow morning.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of the Patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

Christian Science service looks at truth
“What is truth?” (I John 18:38).
“Christian Science brings to light truth and its supremacy, universal harmony, the entireness of God, good and the nothingness of evil,” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”).
Sunday, July 24, the Christian Science service will explore the question, “What is truth?” and how the answer to that question can be applied to one’s life to enhance health and harmony.
This joyful exploration of how to live Jesus’ truth every day starts at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road.
