Burning Bowl service at Unity of Whidbey
Rev Joanna Gabriel will discuss “It’s in the Release” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.
It’s the time of year when we look at new possibilities and beginning anew. However, we can set ourselves up for difficulty if we do not take the first most important step, which is releasing the old thinking, the beliefs that don’t serve us anymore, in order to make room for the new approach, the new desires.
Join Gabriel, musician Talia Toni Marcus and platform assistant Karen McInerney for a powerful ritual of release through the Burning Bowl ceremony.
After the service, a Heart Circle will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A Course in Miracles group meets from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

‘We Laugh, We Cry’ at UUCWI on Sunday
At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will consider the role of lightheartedness in daily living in “We Laugh, We Cry.”
One of life’s challenges is to respond constructively to the large and small crises of our human condition. Many feel that a strong sense of humor is a crucial skill that is helpful at all stages of life.

‘Truth’ is the topic of Christian Science talk
“The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity,” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.”)
Mary Baker Eddy wrote these words almost 150 years ago in the preface of her groundbreaking book that calls for people to understand Jesus Christ’s statement that he came into “… the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice,” (John 18:37).
The definition of this truth — which makes us free from fear, worry and pain — will be the topic of the Jan. 23 service at the Christian Science Church. Everyone is welcome at this service, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 15910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road).
SWCC sermon will hit close to home
Pastor Darrell Wenzek will speak tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church. Having just completed a series on the churches of the Book of Revelation, his topic will now be “The Church at South Whidbey.”
Sunday worship at SWCC is from 10 to 11 a.m., and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m. with Stan Walker leading a study in the book of First Corinthians. This is an open class and everyone is invited. Home Bible studies also resume this week; check the website for times and locations.
All SWCC sermons and special adult forum events are recorded, and are available on the website. South Whidbey Community Church is a local independent, non-denominational church that gathers for worship at the historic Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

RSVP now for women’s retreat
A Women’s Retreat for South Enders will be held at St. Hubert Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 5.
The retreat will commence at 10 a.m. and will be led by Dr. Marianne Dorman. The theme is “Pondering the Word of God by following Mary’s example.”
