Preliminary statewide test scores show more than 93 percent of the class of 2013 passed the state reading and writing high school proficiency exams.

The senior students had to pass the state’s reading and writing High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE) and a math End-of-Course Exam (EOC). The tests are taken in 10th grade, and again until students pass.

South Whidbey High School’s class of 2013 took the HSPE in 2011 and passed at a rate of 85.7 percent in reading and 92.3 percent in writing. The state average then was 82.6 percent for reading and 86.3 percent for writing. All of the 2013 graduates from SWHS passed the HSPE.

EOCs are administered during the last three weeks of school, and preliminary results will be returned in late August, along with preliminary results, as well as and district and school level numbers for the HSPE.

Final results for all exams will be available in the fall.
