Scores of South Whidbey High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society at a ceremony at South Whidbey High School, April 28.
A total of 35 students received the honor, joining a lengthy list of current members.
New inductees are: Claire Burns, Annika Field, Michael Hastings, Charles Patterson, Sonja Pringle, Lochlan Roberts, Sophia Stoughton, Cheryl Swanberg, Cory Ackerman, Cameron Asay, Thandeka Brigham, Collin Burns, Mara Bush, Fiona Callahan, McKenna Chapman, Carmen Colar, Megan Drake, Kinsey Eager, Spencer Fee, Alexandra Foode, Bailey Forsyth, Maxfield Friedman, Bayley Gochanour, Taylor Hamilton, Amelia Hensler, Chloe Hood, Kari Hustad, Bethany Justus, Emma Kerr, Aria Ludtke, Leah Rostov, Savannah Taylor, Lillie Walsh, Carmen Warwick and Riley Yale, according to the induction ceremony program.
Emma Lungren serves as president of the South Whidbey High School chapter of the National Honor Society. Meaghan de Wolf is vice-president while Conor Workman is secretary.
Membership in the South Whidbey High School chapter of the National Honor Society is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. In order to be considered for membership, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and exhibit leadership, service and character.
Potential candidates also receive an evaluation from faculty members rating their leadership, service and character.
A five-member faculty council then takes a vote. A candidate must receive a majority vote from faculty in order to be inducted.
The induction ceremony is the culminating step.
The National Honor Society is an organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. The society serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character, according to the induction ceremony program.
