The South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District has completed a draft trail development plan for Trustland Trails, district officials announced Friday.

Parks commissioners are hoping the public will weigh in on the plan before it is adopted on July 16.

Trustland Trails, located at Highway 525 and Craw Road, is a 200-acre parcel of land given to the district by the state’s trust land transfer program in June 2007.

Volunteers have been helping craft the trail plan since early 2006, and the plan will guide the district as it develops future trails and recreation opportunities while protecting wildlife habitat.

In November 2007, the park district passed a $1.6 million bond that included funding for developing a new trailhead parking area and a handicapped-accessible trail at Trustland Trails.

The park board will vote on adoption of the plan at its regularly scheduled monthly board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16. Commissioners will meet at the South Whidbey Community Health Services building, 5475 Maxwelton Road in Langley.
