Changes to South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District’s employee compensation and benefits will be reviewed by the commissioners at Wednesday’s meeting behind closed doors.

The nature of those changes and how the district would implement them will be discussed in executive session, which is closed to the public. Parks Executive Director Doug Coutts said it was closed because the commissioners will discuss individual employees’ compensation and performance. Some employees may earn more, and some may earn less if the plan is approved.

The parks board cannot take action in closed session; any decisions would require the board to reopen the public meeting and vote in open session. Coutts said he hoped the commissioners would take action because it would help the district in its budgeting process for 2015.

Parks commissioners will also look at the district’s property acquisition matrix, a wish list of properties within their boundaries. One such item that was recently offered was an estimated nine-acre property adjacent to the district’s Trustland Trails. Coutts said if the district acquired it, the property would put a small bump in the trails’ rough “L” shape.

The property is only accessible by a private access road and the parks district’s trails. It was offered by the owner for $110,000.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the parks district office at 5475 Maxwelton Road.
