An electrical power surge in Langley resulted in overloaded systems along Maxwelton Road early Tuesday.

The surge left South End schools without power, and some students were moved from their classrooms.

“Apparently, fuses blew on two different lines and caused a harsh electrical burning smell at the primary school,” said secretary to the superintendent Sue Terhar.

“Power was restored but all the primary students were moved to the intermediate building as a precaution, temporarily doubling up under the buddy system,” she said.

Terhar added that power interrupted classes at the high and intermediate schools, but they were back on line by 9 a.m.

Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Nina Huang explained that a tree limb fell on a power line in Langley.

“There was an outage from 7:28 to 8:50 a.m. and that resulted in the problem at the schools,” she said.
