Six students from South Whidbey High School were honored for their achievements in mathematics, science and technology by the Whidbey Island Branch of the American Association of University Women at the group’s scholars recognition event on April 13 at Coupeville Methodist Church.

The SWHS scholars are seniors Natasha Kamps (mathematics), Megan Larmore (science) and Michelle Young (technology). Recipients in the junior class are Alissa Coupe (mathematics), Angelica Janda (science) and Samantha Estill (technology).

The young women were selected as the most outstanding female scholars in their respective fields by the high school’s academic staff.

This year, the Whidbey Island branch honored both seniors and juniors, so that the junior class will become acquainted with AAUW’s scholarship program to help with college planning. The branch presented each scholar with an AAUW scholars “Certificate of Excellence” and a small stipend. A poster with each student’s photo was displayed with those of other scholars at AAUW’s state convention.
