South Whidbey Tilth Farmers’ Market is considering extending its August hours to match the current July hours and may discontinue playing live music during the weekly event.

The market is now open an extra hour, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. It is located at 2812 Thompson Road, Langley.

“We extended the hours because we were getting a lot more people in the same spot,” South Whidbey Tilth President Gary Ingram said.

“We thought it would spread people out.”

Despite the extra time, Ingram said people were concerned the live music was causing customers to linger. He estimated that over 200 people attended the market throughout the day on July 12.

The market follows COVID-19 safety guidelines and requires customers to wear masks or face coverings in order to shop.

Market-goers also have access to three handwashing stations and two restrooms. And the outdoor area allows customers to physically distance themselves.

Members of the Tilth Market will discuss whether or not to continue live music at it’s next scheduled meeting on Thursday, July 16.

The market features local fruits, vegetables, floral bouquets, baked goods, honey, mushrooms, soaps and unique crafts. It also participates in the the SNAP and SNAP Market Match program providing customers with double value for fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and mushrooms.

Several vendors also accept Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers for both Seniors and Women, Infants and Children, or WIC. Through the Goosefoot Community Fund, those vouchers are matched up to $10 per visit.
