St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church will sponsor two illuminating and inspirational lectures on Celtic and Benedictine spirituality from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. during the first two Sundays of the month, June 3 and June 10, in the parish hall.

The community is welcome to hear Frank Shirbroun and Teresa Di Biase serve as spiritual guides on an exploratory trek to our roots in early Christianity.

The two-part series is titled “Listening to Creation, Listening to the Ordinary: Celtic and Benedictine Spirituality.” It poses two important questions: How much do we as Christians know about Celtic and Benedictine Christianity? More important, what do these ancient ways of being Christian have to do with us today?

These lectures have two distinct emphasis. On June 3, we will examine the spiritual gifts we have received from the Celtic Christians who flourished from the 5th into the 9th century throughout Great Britain, Ireland and Brittany.

On June 10, we will explore the life and practices of St. Benedict, and examine how the rules of behavior he established for his monastic community survive today and are totally applicable to the 21st century person, both clergy and laity alike.
