A community forum on suicide prevention will focus on warning signs and how to listen and keep individuals safe.
The program, called Forefront Suicide Prevention LEARN Training, is an initiative of the University of Washington.
It’s designed to help parents and community members recognize peers, friends or family who might be having suicidal thoughts.
The meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, is at South Whidbey High School; the school district is not sponsoring the event.
Forefront Suicide Prevention is being taught in schools, colleges, universities, juvenile courts and other community venues around the region.
Some high schools have adapted a three-year program that aims to transform the culture around suicide and develop a comprehensive suicide prevention and mental health promotion program.
