Superintendent contract renewed

The South Whidbey School Board renewed Superintendent Josephine Moccia’s three-year contract.

The South Whidbey School Board voted to renew Superintendent Josephine Moccia’s three-year employment contract during its regular meeting Nov. 17.

The renewal extends her employment until June 30, 2025. Her annual salary is $202,177.

Though the vote to renew Moccia’s rolling contract has historically taken place in January, board member Damian Greene suggested taking the vote in November so that board members who have worked with the superintendent for at least a year could make the decision about her employment in the event of board turnover following an election.

The motion to renew Moccia’s contract passed in a 4-0 vote. Greene was not present at the meeting.

“It is a pleasure to extend the contract, and I’ve been very pleased to work with Dr. Moccia,” board member Marnie Jackson said after casting her “aye” vote.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with you through the goal setting and execution, and I continue to be impressed with your flexibility and direction,” added board President Brook Willeford.
