Members of the South Whidbey High School senior class donated all the proceeds from their Winter Ball to a fund helping Haiti relief efforts — a total of $1,347.

The money was accepted by Victoria Santos of the Sister Island Project, an organization that promotes cultural exchange, diversity awareness and international friendships with undeveloped islands in the Caribbean.

“With the recent generous donation to the Sister Island Project made by South Whidbey High School students, we will be able to provide food and medicine to Haitian refugees,” Santos said.

Falcon senior Alexa Brewster was in charge of the effort, part of her culminating project.

“We knew we wanted the money to go to a worthwhile cause, one that was local, but would go directly to help the victims of that terrible earthquake in Haiti,” Brewster said.

“We believed the Sister Island Project would be a perfect fit.”
