A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in a serious automobile accident last Thursday died Monday night at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

Accrding to a Harborview spokeswoman, Robert Armstrong, of Langley, died at about 10:30 p.m. Monday after having spent almost five days in critical condition at the hospital. He was airlifted to Harborview after the midnight crash on Bayview Road and was being treated for head injuries.

Armstrong was one of five teens in a 1998 Escort that skidded down Quigley Road and crashed into a Bayview Road bed and breakfast. Four of the teens were flown to Harborview after Fire District 3 volunteers and Whidbey General Hospital paramedics pulled them from the early-morning wreck. One of those four, an unidentified 14-year-old girl, was released from the hospital over the weekend after being treated for her injuries. Two teens remain in the hospital, including the car’s driver, 19-year-old driver Samuel Slater, and 18-year-old passenger Aaron Schroader. Both remain in critical condition after the accident, Slater with face, spine and abdominal injuries and Schroader with head and neck injuries.

Another 16-year-old girl who was in the car was released last Thursday after being treated at Whidbey General Hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol
