A teenage driver with a learner’s permit backed a Ford F-250 truck into the booth by the Star Store parking lot and damaged it just after midnight Sunday.

Michael Beech, a 20-year deputy and reserve officer for the Langley Police Department, heard a loud crash while parked at U.S. Bank. He saw a large red truck drive away from the booth.

“I could tell from what I saw that the truck had backed into the shack and was now pulling out of the parking lot,” Beech wrote in his officer’s narrative report.

In his report, Beech said the 16-year-old driver was “obviously very scared” and told the officer he was asked to drive the truck because its owner had been drinking.

Because the crash happened in a parking lot, the damage is a civil matter that will be handled by the Star Store and the driver, according to the report.

No charges were filed.
