There will be a church potluck following the Sunday service, and Roger Burkhart will be sharing stories about his trip to Israel.

Each worship service begins at 10 a.m. and is preceded at 9 a.m. by two adult learning forums: one is a discussion of the Book of Romans, led by Stan Walker; the other a study of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, led by Jim Craft. Midweek Bible studies continue in the Gospel of Luke, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, led by Art Angst at Rick and Dinah Zapata’s home.

Next week on Sunday, Aug. 31, the speaker will be Dr. Dana Wright, who has a doctorate’s degree from Princeton.

South Whidbey Community Church is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road, Langley.

‘Seven principles’ is topic at UUCWI

The Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism are foundational to the liberal, pluralistic Unitarian Universalist faith. The first of these is the belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being.

Unitarian Universalists believe that everyone has inborn value and that it is the responsibility of the family and the community to shape a new life in positive ways. Rev. Kit Ketcham will speak about this principle and how it is put into practice by Unitarian Universalists and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The service will be informal and outdoors on the church property at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. All are welcome, though there is no religious education or childcare this month. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.
