Donations are coming in at a fast clip from all island towns for the Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation’s eighth annual “Spring Fling” auction. The fundraiser is Saturday, June 4 at the Useless Bay Country Club.
“The variety and quality of items, services and experiences being donated this year has exceeded anything we’ve seen.” said Nancy Lyon who, with her husband JW, is leading the procurement effort.
Among the items are a hot air balloon ride, an all-Whidbey golf package, an Ashland Shakespearean theater weekend, vacation accommodations from Whidbey to Bali, dinners, music lessons, original artwork and many offerings for canines and felines.
WAIF was founded to operate compassionate animal shelters, to provide care while seeking adoption and develop programs to benefit needy companion animals. WAIF is the only state-certified humane shelter in Island County.
“The challenges and responsibilities that face WAIF are great. The support the community is showing is fantastic,” said auction chairwoman Dawn Ritter, who is helping to organize the event with co-chairs Merritt Atwood and Melene Thompson.
