The Oak Harbor Fire Department will conduct a live fire training burn beginning at 8 a.m. this Saturday, June 24.
The burn will take place at 747 East Whidbey Avenue, where the department will burn a single-family house in a controlled fashion, according to a press release. Fires will be ignited and extinguished repeatedly throughout the training, which is scheduled to end by 3 p.m.
Whidbey Avenue will remain open to traffic in both directions throughout the course of the event. Eastbound traffic will use the center turn lane until the end of the training. Cones will be set up to direct traffic, and the department asks drivers to exercise caution in the area.
The training will be rescheduled in the event of unfavorable wind conditions.
Residents can contact Training Officer Craig Anderson at 360-279-4706 with any questions.
