Five Whidbey organizations were presented with checks totaling $7,500 last month at a ceremony at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Freeland.

The money, $1,500 for each, was raised during the 53rd Annual Trash & Treasure Sale. More than 300 customers made purchases, a recent news release reported.

The following groups received checks: Senior Services of Island County’s Meals on Wheels program, Citizens Against Domestic Abuse, The Commons, Good Cheer and Equestrian Crossings.

Event organizers expressed thanks to the more than 50 volunteers who helped put the treasure sale on, and the shoppers whose purchases paid for the grants.
