Useless Bay Golf & Country Club members made good use of its space during a recent fundraiser.
Anyone who saw pink last week at the club noticed the cancer awareness and fight tournament to provide funding for a breast MRI scan-biopsy system with the money specifically going to Whidbey General Hospital.
The flag sticks were painted pink, there were pink cones at the tee boxes, pink and white flowers, and the color of choice for the participants was pink.
The women were not alone in their efforts as many of the businesses in the community supported the cause by donating prizes, gift cards, flowers and support.
This year, Useless Bay members provided $4,500 for three scholarships to graduating seniors at South Whidbey High School.
To show their support of the military, the club opened the course for just over a week to all military personnel. Members donated money to pay for their food, rounds of golf and an occasional libation or two.
This year, Useless Bay has donated more than $8,000 in golf rounds to local charity fundraisers, is the home course for South Whidbey High School’s boys and girls golf teams, and for the last few years held a “Concert on the Green” to support South Whidbey Elementary School’s Band and Music Program.
