Violinist Gloria Ferry-Brennan, an eighth-grader at Langley Middle School, has been invited to play with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Gloria’s mom, Anne Ferry-Brennan, said that this past spring, the 14-year-old was one of a group of young musicians recommended to audition for a solo with the prestigious orchestra. 

She will play the first movement of Aram Khachaturian’s violin concerto as part of a celebration of late SeaTac resident Alan Hovhaness’ 100th birthday next week. Both composers share Armenian descent. 

Hovhaness’ wife is one of the concert’s organizers. 

Gloria will be the only soloist in the concert. The concert will also feature Hovhaness’ “Mount Saint Helens, Symphony No. 50,” performed by the symphony along with selected student musicians from Highline School District and Kentwood High School Chamber Orchestra as honorary members of the orchestra conducted by Eric Garcia. 

The concert will be at 7 p.m. March 3 at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert will be approximately 50 minutes.

The Highline Performing Arts Center is located at 401 South 152nd St., near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

In March, Gloria will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to play in the finals of the Music Teachers National Association Junior Strings Competition.
