A fast-moving group of volunteers came out on “Make a Difference Day” to help Whidbey Watershed Stewards and the Port of South Whidbey with a tree-planting party at the Langley Marina.
Much more than trees were planted in the renovated Phil Simon Park, however.
Nancy Waddell of Whidbey Watershed Stewards said the helpers installed a mixture of native plants, including vine maples, grasses and drought-tolerant plants. Roughly 180 plants were installed at the park.
The volunteers included Mike and Linda Rosenwood of Freeland, Robert Gentz, a board member for the stewards, members of the Simon family, Ed Field from the Port of South Whidbey, and port board candidates Dean Enell and Curt Gordon.
